Concept development 4: global platform

at first, i wanted to make a webserie black masculinity in America, Paris and London, then Paris and London.

i realised that as many people told me I was very ambitious and maybe too much for this project, webserie alone. I wanted to say so many things that wouldn’t take 10 minutes.

so I figured. Why not create a website that would be a platform for the visual expression of black identities in different places. The webserie could therefore the start of that bigger project. Thinking like that allowed me firstly not to diminish the webserie as it was big enough but also still thinking of black diaspora as an entity having different identities that need a space!

i also read Paul Gilroy Black Atlantic, and I did some research on black consciousness. Gilroy basically argues that with the concept of hybridity, how cultures create a synergy, black people from colonised countries created a shared space, a consciousness that was born through history of shared struggle notably. And I deeply feel that, very connected to a country that I have never been (America) and a culture that is not mine.

It is quite weird!

I was also thinking about some logo or some background for the website. I’m into gradient and noise. So I was looking at some design work on Instagram that inspired me to do mine. (See below) I also looked at some YouTube videos to do that because I had no website designing background. (
